AI search visibility: what changes, and what does not

More buyers now ask an AI assistant before they open a search results page. That changes what it means to be found. Most of the work is still the work of good SEO, with a few sharper requirements.

What stays the same

AI systems that answer questions draw on pages that are clear, accurate and widely referenced. Technical health, helpful content and honest authority signals still decide most of it.

What gets sharper

  • Answer first. Open each page with a direct answer in the first two lines, then the evidence.
  • One clear entity statement. Say who you are and what you do in the same words on your site, your profiles and your directory listings. Consistency makes you easy to describe.
  • Structured data. Mark up the organisation, the people, the services, the FAQs and the reviews, accurately and only where they are true.
  • Cite your own evidence. Numbers with sources are quotable. Adjectives are not.
  • Be present where answers come from: reputable directories, publications, review sites and your own profiles.

How I measure it

There is no single rank to track. I keep a fixed set of buyer questions, ask them across the main assistants on a schedule, and record whether the brand is cited, described correctly, and linked. The record is the baseline, and changes are judged against it.

I run the same test on my own sites, including a content site I use as a live test lab.

A note of caution

Nobody can promise a citation. Anyone who does is selling something. What you can do is remove reasons not to be cited, and measure honestly.
